I want a few readers to tell me what you really think

The Vocal contest requires the story to be the first chapter of a fantasy novel that involves a dragon finding an abandoned human child. Since I already have one dragon story, I decided to use the same characters and situation. So technically it is sorta chapter two, but you could read it like chapter one. I do want it to be able to stand alone.

I’d like some feedback if you are willing. What parts do you like? Is everything clear? Is there anything that you would change?

A quick note. I had a dream about this story. In my dream, the villain was simply named “Yes.” It seemed an odd name, but I went with it. It got me thinking about how when people stand up for their rights, they often have to say “NO!” The vast majority of people continue every day to say “yes” to the status quo. We need to stop the destructive practices leading to climate change. To do that, we all need to be able to say “NO!” to each other and to ourselves. If I do end up writing a fantasy novel, I want it to be about something big and fundamental, like how to make a positive change in the world.
