Your essays are one of the reasons I pay for a Medium membership. As a white man, I know the pull to feel like a minority. I see it come up in myself when I witness injustice. For example, climate change feels like an attack on people, and I get angry about how the "elite" are killing the planet and affecting me. That place of feeling hurt by the system fuels my desire for change. But I also see that "hurt white boy" syndrome active in our former orange haired president and his followers, so I distrust my own perceptions of oppression. Me feeling hurt by the system places myself outside of the system. This is good for fueling my anger and inaction, but it is not an accurate picture. I am part of the system, and the sooner I recognize that, the sooner I can use my place within the system to change things. Thank you for this essay!
