You probably already know that I’m all in for consumer DNA testing. I have my reasons just like you have some very good reasons to be wary.
I appreciate how DNA testing can exonerate people who are wrongly accused and conversely how, especially in the case of rape, it can bring evidence to something that is often a case of he said/she said.
I am impressed with how they found d the GS killer. It is not that hard. I recently used my genealogy skills combined with a DNA test to help someone find their birth mother. It was exactly like you said, I didn’t need the mom to do the test, it was enough to have results from a constellation of people around the mom. I was able to narrow it down to two people and then ruled out one.
So yeah. You speak the truth. Your data is out there by proxy.
