I love your smoking analogy. Smokers used to be the dominant culture in the USA. You could smoke anywhere. Then we de-centered smokers and had them in a separate section. That was a key first step. As soon as they had a separate section, we could still smell the smoke and we knew we had to protect children from second hand smoke, so we eliminated it entirely from places where we couldn't protect people - like airplanes.

Smoking was dominant. Then it was de-centered. Then the harm was mitigated. Lets do that for whiteness!
