Wow! Insightful as always. I appreciate how you write to “you.” It took it to another level. It dared me to see myself in the piece where it made sense.
I have been dwelling on the script metaphor, too. One thought I had is how some movies can seem really “dated.” We had Sixteen Candles in our collection for the students. They never picked it but I had never thought of it as anything but a funny movie until one parent nixed it when we asked for consent for the list. Then I read about it and yikes. The racism and rape and more. Ha ha. No.

So our collective white het male script is certainly dated. And has many of the same problems as Sixteen Candles.
