More short fiction from a chaotic good thief

Anamar chats to everyone: “We don’t know what’s waiting for us, so we all want to enter together. On the count of three, click the new ZOOM link.”

We all reply thumbs up to Anamar.

“One,” he says out loud.

“Two”

“Three!”

We all pop out of ZOOM breakout room 14, and we start entering the new ZOOM room. My relatively slow rural internet means the rest of the group is already in the room when I get here. There is someone else here, too: a white guy with a neatly trimmed black goatee and well-worn leather armor with a lion sigil on his breast. His background is what looks like the stone walls of a castle. He spotlights himself.

“Welcome to Gate Room 14 of the ZOOM underworld! I am Lothi, a gatekeeper, and by my leave, only the worthy shall pass.”

“What must we do to prove our worth, good Lothi?” Says Anamar.

“In a moment I will open access to six breakout rooms. Within each room, you will find either a benevolent helper or a dangerous challenge or maybe a little of both. Within at least one of the rooms there will be a ZOOM key to access a ZOOM room within the underworld and begin your journey.

To live in a world of peace and justice we must imagine it first. For this, we need artists and writers. I write to reach for the edges of what is possible.
