I was thinking about why we teach algebra the other day. There are some of my students who struggle with equations and they say things like "why are we learning this?" And I think the answer comes down to the fact that refined logical thinking is necessary for recognizing and calling out injustice.

When the is an equation on a page, that is literally saying that both sides are equal. If you do things to one side, but don't do the same things to the other side, then this results in an inequality. I wish teachers would make it clear that algebra and other math classes are about morals and ethics.
