TLDR: I published 102 stories in 2022, with a total read time of 649 minutes (about 130,000 words!). People became fans of my 2022 stories 904 times. My income total was $278 for 3,432 hours of reading time. Analysis: I can’t afford to quit my day job, yet.

I KNOW you want more details. I used an Excel spreadsheet to plot out all the essays I published on Medium in 2022.

I tallied up the following data points:

1. Number of minutes of reading time (how long the story was) — total for all 102 stories for the year: 649, average length 6.4 minutes
2. Total views — 12,260 total for the year, average of 120 views per story (90 per story if you throw out the two outliers that had over 1000 views)
3. Total reads — 3586 total for the year, average of 35 per story (29 per story without the outliers)
4. Read ratio — 29% for all stories published in 2022
5. Number of Fans — 904 for all stories. Average of 9 people (bots?) clapped per story
6. Partner Program Income — Total of $278 for 94 stories published in 2022 that I submitted to the Partner Program, average of $2.96 per story
