Interesting language around "bids." I think I have heard it somewhere but you summarized well. I wonder about the person who is on the receiving end of a bid. Specifically I wonder how much they are aware that a bid is even happening.

The other day I spent much of it downstairs writing and reading and responding on Medium. My partner was upstairs watching shows and communicating with friends and family over the phone. Later in the day they mentioned that they had hoped I would come and check in on them. Oops. I had been lost in my world. So perhaps a bid was made by staying upstairs and not coming to me, but I wasn't aware of it until after the fact. We had a good connection after that, but your essay makes me think that bids are happening all the time - like every time I get a text.
