Refer for Refer, one time only.

Or we band together and redistribute Referral Program wealth to people who need it.

Either way.

This photo of mine comes free as a bonus to whoever takes me up on the offer

When Medium introduced the referral program, I was a little upset. It seems like they are taking up to half of the revenue from memberships and distributing it to the people who refer the most members. It is going to be a popularity contest, with up to half of the money at stake. That is a lot of money that could otherwise have been distributed through the Medium Partner Program (not that I am raking in the MPP money — no, not yet).

If they follow through and give half of the income from referred subscriptions to the referrers, then it could actually take more than half of the money away from the MPP, because we have to assume that there are some expenses to running this website, and that those would have to be paid out of the remaining half of membership fees, making for a potentially incredible shrinking pot of money for MPP.

At this point in time, my guess is that there are not many referred members, yet. Medium just started the program, and many people might just be paying for their memberships without bothering to be referred. But, given the shrinking resource base for paying MPP writers that will come as the referral program matures, I am thinking…

To live in a world of peace and justice we must imagine it first. For this, we need artists and writers. I write to reach for the edges of what is possible.
