I wrestled one year in high school to stay in shape for soccer. Joining the wrestling team was like stepping onto a moving train. There was so much intensity to practice and matches. The idea was a full commitment to discipline: in weight loss, in working out, in perfecting the moves. The best wrestlers had been doing it for years and were methodical in their technique. I was new and would get overcome with anxiety before matches and channel it all during matches. Sometimes I won, other times not, but alway six minutes of full speed wrestling was as exhausting as a full soccer match. There was a brotherliness to the team because we had all been through the Boot Camp type practices. We could walk around the school and know that nobody worked harder than we did. I liked my season, but it was too much for me.

To live in a world of peace and justice we must imagine it first. For this, we need artists and writers. I write to reach for the edges of what is possible.
