I used to believe in shifting demographics, but now I am not so sure. 45 won by pulling white voters not from the democrats, but from the non-voting and occasional voting white majority. It is not just demographic shifts that will determine outcomes, and if the Dems do not come up with a compelling story, they will continue to risk loss. A problem, I think, is that when the Dems fail to deliver, many of their voters will go back to the sidelines. While on the other side, the Republicans don’t have to deliver anything. They just need to stay on the side of anti-government forces and try to block the Dems’ efforts. Also, until we rid ourselves of gerrymandering, I think the Republicans will be around in their current do-nothing-for-the-people form.

To live in a world of peace and justice we must imagine it first. For this, we need artists and writers. I write to reach for the edges of what is possible.
