I love finding the "city directrories" on Ancestry because they came out every year (instead of the ten year censuses) and listed the occupations for everybody and addresses. Knowing those occupations is a window into their lives. I have one ancestor who was a "puddler," which is a very specific skilled type of iron worker. Thanks for reading and responding.
