I feel you. Human nature looks pretty bleak right now. Where I lived in Honduras it was a sort of paradox. People were generous and connected in their communities and then did not trust anyone else. Razor wire on top of walls and houses protected by mean dogs and pistols. The paradox is that there was so much community spirit and interconnected families. People look out for each other as long as they are part of the community and are suspicious of outsiders and enemies.
I think the climate crisis will be a slow decline. Instead of an instant crisis like Covid it will be more like the after effects of climate refugees and disasters and supply chain issues and agricultural disruption dragging down economies. My guess is the future of the USA looks like Honduras with extreme inequality and suspicion and exploitation.
If that is the case we will need community skills and also a healthy dose of suspicion.
