I appreciate the mention of Latin American families. When I lived in Honduras there was no stigma to multiple generations living in one household. In fact, the households often included cousins and others who are not in the direct line. There is a lot of synergy to having a family compound - child care, cooking, and more. I think this idea of needing to move out and have an independent living situation might be related to capitalism. Each household needs a whole set of stuff.
