Huzzah! Off to the Ren Faire.

My selfie game is weak, but at least I can say all photos by the author.

This past week was a huge week for the vegetable gardens. We got through most of the weeding; we planted more corn, more Brussels Sprouts, and some lettuce; and we tied up the tomatoes in the garden — all in the sweltering heat.

The challenge at the end of the week was that my Morris dancing team had a commitment to be at a Renaissance fair all day both Saturday and Sunday. This included a trip on Friday to set up the tent. It was 90 degrees and sunny both days and it was a challenge to pace ourselves and stay hydrated, but we all had a good time and we also invited three other teams to join us.

It was a full weekend and I apologize for the late publication of Farm Friday — best I could do.

This is our Ren Fest shelter — a glamping tent with a few modifications.
The milkweed is blooming and fragrant.

I mowed next to the blueberries and exposed a nest. Hope the parents did not abandon it!
Making a trellis for our tomatoes. We are using wooden stakes which were milled from our own white oak.
The three sisters garden is growing well!
The delicata squash are vining out.
Our new silky bantam rooster is hanging out in the potato planter. His name is Devi.
One of our new llamas was laid out on the ground with her head extended. I worried she was hurt or worse. Then she popped up.
What? She said. I was just resting.
We planted a variety of cover crops. They are coming up better and faster in the wheel tracks.
That is a carpet of weeds! most are gone now.
Night time long exposure. Our magnificent oak behind the house.

In writing news, there is no news. I had a nice writers’ group meeting this week where I conceded that my creative production might be seasonal. I do have a lot of ideas. Lately, I have been starting a Medium essay draft whenever an idea pops into my mind. I have about dozen essay drafts with just one sentence.

To live in a world of peace and justice we must imagine it first. For this, we need artists and writers. I write to reach for the edges of what is possible.
