A little snow

The Friday snowfall coated all the twigs.

All photos by me, Andrew Gaertner — taken on my iPhone 11.

We got snow Friday night — not enough to ski on, but enough to make everything white and for us to see wild animal tracks. This was on top of a dusting on New Year's Eve, so maybe I will get to ski this winter after all.

The tracks are fun. There is a cat that doesn’t belong to us or our neighbors making tracks at both places. There are large canine tracks on the road and on our neighbors’ pond, but we think it might be the coyotes we have been hearing at night. There are fisher tracks far away in the woods. Many deer, rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, and birds have made tracks in the snow too. We saw a large group of turkeys out in the field and some big turkey tracks later. Maybe there were thirty turkeys in the group. Wild America out there.

In other news, there was a lot of blood sprayed in one of the chickens’ nest boxes. No sign of where it came from. We suspect a fight between roosters. The farm is always presenting little mysteries.

In writing news. There is no news. I have been reading fantasy novels and thinking about a piece about dystopian fiction. I need to start writing it, but I keep getting distracted by reading.

Thank you to Susie Kearley for adding me to this publication.

If you would like access to a treasure trove of my farm photos, I’m on Pexels. Photos are free, but a donation is appreciated (it would be the first time for me).

To live in a world of peace and justice we must imagine it first. For this, we need artists and writers. I write to reach for the edges of what is possible.
