Foggy mornings and no snow

This is the first day of my “summer.” As a farmer/teacher for a Montessori school, my actual summers are full of work tending crops and running farm camps for young people. So I have traditionally had my down time in January and February. It is my time to read books, take up hobbies, go skiing (not this year), and travel to Honduras. And it starts today. Woohoo!

Yesterday the last student group of 2023 left the farm to go be with their families. It was a sweet goodbye. On Thursday night they had a Solstice poetry evening, where we turned off all the lights and read poems about darkness and light by candlelight. On Friday we had our closing ceremony in the morning. This group brought their whole hearts to the three-week stay and it was sad to see them go.

There is still no snow and we have more rain in the forecast. Yuck.

The candles the students made, ready to sell
Cornmeal, popcorn, garlic salt, and beans packed for delivery to customers
We hosted a group of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders this week. One of their activities was making felted wool creations. Mine was my dog, Pippa.
We had a nice fire for our closing ceremony
Without snow, the guinea fowl walk all the way over to the school building.
Instead of a tree, we have a wreath inside.
Most of the photos on my camera are of Little Bear or Franni

In writing news, I completed my essay about the end of the world.

I also posted an essay about Morris dancing.

To live in a world of peace and justice we must imagine it first. For this, we need artists and writers. I write to reach for the edges of what is possible.
