Spring is coming along

It has been a month since my last farm update. We had a group of Junior High students here for the first three weeks of March, and since then we have had a lull in our visits, with just one overnight by the third graders.

The winter has been unusual, to say the least. We had March weather in February. But then the snow came back for the second half of March. All the daffodils came up and were about to flower somewhere around the first week of March, and since then they have been in stasis, waiting. I think this week we will see them flower. The same for the robins and the bluebirds. They came back and have had to suffer through several snowfalls and chilly nights.

We have the peppers and tomatoes started at a neighbor’s greenhouse, and our greenhouse will start up on Monday. So spring is coming along.

We have a lot of eggs again. And the yolks are bright orange because the chickens have been able to graze on grass.
We used crayons to do a little art before dyeing.
On a cold night, the ice crystals in the air give a halo effect to the moon. Cameo by our dirty car.
We have two chickens who are separated from the flock for their own safety. Sweet Pea falls sometimes and can’t get up and Polly can’t see well and stays out at night. They are anxious for some outside time, which they will get as it warms up.
One of the students made a “giraffe” feeder for the llamas. We can put some treat hay in that the sheep can’t get to. See the jealous look on Merry’s face?
Rheaa ran out into the snow and rolled in it! Poppers seems amused as she watches.
Pippa is a snow dog!

In writing news, there is no news. I have been working on a review of the 14-book fantasy series that I just finished. But the vastness of the author’s world is overwhelming. Maybe now that I’m done reading it I can go back to writing.

To live in a world of peace and justice we must imagine it first. For this, we need artists and writers. I write to reach for the edges of what is possible.
