Climate Minute: Wisconsin Supreme Court Elections

Every Wisconsin state-wide election is a climate election

You can drive your Tesla and share Greta memes until the cows come home, but if the polluters win elections in Wisconsin it all might mean nothing.

In the April 4th election, we choose a new Wisconsin Supreme Court judge. Although this is a non-partisan election, those one “election denier” judge and one “we love democracy” judge in the April ballot.

These off-year non-partisan elections are potential hinges for history and are decided by voter turn out.

Corporate polluters make up the bulk of the carbon emissions. If the polluters turn out their anti-democracy vote, we could see an election denier win. That would be bad for democracy, which would be disastrous for the planet.

With a pro-democracy judge in the Wisconsin Supreme Court, we might be able to challenge partisan gerrymandering. The next Presidential election might also be decided by swing state Supreme Courts. High stakes!

If you live in Wisconsin, for the love of Pete, get out and vote in the April elections. Vote for either Janet Protasiewicz. If you live elsewhere, please consider donating time or money.

To live in a world of peace and justice we must imagine it first. For this, we need artists and writers. I write to reach for the edges of what is possible.
